Wow!
Asia's 11th birthday is tomorrow - September 2nd! She always reminds me that it's the same as Keanu Reeves! Virgos, they're finicky, caring, sensitive,... FUN.
Well, this was a birthday present she won't forget! Asia, a friend named Tyler, and I got to sit on stage with Maroon 5 at their August 29, 2004 concert at the Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater in Atlanta, GA!
I have to say, she was the closest person to the group as they played a set list that was OUT OF THIS WORLD. If I could be a music critic, I would have to tell you that it was one of the best concerts I've seen in a while. The reasons were 1) sitting on speakers onstage with 2004's MTV Video Music Award Winners for 2004 BEST NEW ARTIST, and 2) the band plays with their heart. There is no fancy stage setting, they wear jeans and t-shirts, no glamour and glitz... Plain old guys who love to perform their songs.
Adam Levine, 25, the lead singer, sang ALL the vocals. The rest of the guys played their instruments. I was impressed. He sang and jumped around and still managed to take a few photos with fans after the show. I know he was tired. I know he wished he were in Miami, accepting the award from MTV. (The concert fell on the same night as the VMAs on MTV).
I felt bad, in a way, because not being there to accept your 1st MTV award ever must have really made him feel bad. Maybe not. But the group has done so well this past year, they really deserved it.
As for Asia and I, we had an experience of a lifetime. It was AWESOME.
A special thanks to Skip Bishop and Vance Cobb for being our friends for life.
